World of Warplanes is a massive multiplayer real time game in the genre of arcade flight simulator in the historical setting of World War II, announced by Belarussian studio Wargaming.net on June 7, 2011 in Los Angeles at Electronic Entertainment Expo. The game is now at the stage of closed alpha testing.

In June 2011 Wargaming.net company announced the game World of Warplanes and published an article on the website of World of Tanks, "World of Warplanes. The first part stating that the gameplay, the overall global map and the financial system will be similar to WoT.
In August 2011 Wargaming.net announced that the game was in the early alpha-testing stage and opened the official forum. This was followed by a few details about the game as well as a trailer (which will be submitted to the Gamescom 2011).
The Alpha-version of the game was for the first time shown at Igromir - Russian videogame convent. Games's Lead Designer Ivan Kulbich, a Nikitova Games employee revealed developers' plans about alpha-testing and it's participants.
The beta release date is expected to be somewhere in spring 2012 (which hemisphere? how about a month),close to the French tier release for World of Tanks. And the BETA is Somewhere in the dawn of the year.
The game is developed on the same engine as the World of Tanks, BigWorld, but according to developers it will be specially adapted for aircraft.
Fights will occur in the air. The two teams will take part in battles lasting over 15 minutes. The battles will end when one side is eliminated or all of the ground targets at the enemy base are destroyed.
World of Warplanes will include military vehicles from several key periods in the history of aircraft - from 1930s era biplanes to those from the Korean War, which became the progenitors of modern aircraft.
The game will allow the player to choose from three basic classes of vehicles: fighters, the most effective in melee combat maneuvering, heavy fighters, threatening any adversary with a powerful armament, and "storm troopers" - the main hunters of ground targets. For each type of aircraft will be available several types of weapons and a variety of options for the airframe and engines.
During beta testing phase World of Warplanes will have 60 types of aircraft of German, Soviet and US origin. In the future it is planned to add British and Japanese aircraft with new branches as well as to add aircraft gradually in the course of the game.
There will be two types of aircraft control - expert and simplified. The same engine supports joysticks and gamepads.
The game will be represented by several large gaming locations with dynamic weather conditions that will affect the controllability of the airplane. Do game cards will be visible border, in contact with the plane beyond which a player auto to return to the location, but at the same time, the boundaries of the bottom of the card will not be, there can be easily broken on the ground or fall into the ocean. However, the number of cards will be much less than in the WoT.
Depending on the success in the battle, the player will get credits and experience that can be spent on research and purchasing modules and equipment. Also in the game plan to gold, which will be shared with the World of Tanks. It can be spent on buying premium equipment, weapons and consumables, to create your own clan, the development of the crew as well as to a premium account.
In World of Warplanes can join in Squadron (similar to platoons in WoT), as well as to create a clan and participate in the battles on the global map, which will be shared with the World of Tanks.
